Morton's Neuroma

Morton's Neuroma

Morton’s Neuroma involves a thickening of the tissue around one of the nerves leading into the toes usually from some form of irritation or damage to the nerve. This is most commonly seen between the 3rd and 4th toes and resulting in a sharp, burning pain in the ball of your foot and potentially numbness in the affected toes.

Common Causes

  • Running or any high impact activity that repeatedly puts pressure on the feet
  • Flat feet
  • Bunions
  • Poor fitting shoes that are tight and pointy in the toe area or high heeled

                                Common Signs & Symptoms

                                • Tingling or numbness in the foot especially the affected toes
                                • Sense of something being stuck under your foot such as a small pebble
                                • Shooting pain in the ball of the foot

                                                            Condition Management

If the pain is not stopping you from completing normal activities and isn’t recurring or getting worse, some treatment options include:

                                                            • Altering footwear for something that is wide, comfortable and with a low heel
                                                            • Rest and a reduction in high impact activities such as running
                                                            • Elevating the foot when you can

If your pain is recurring or worsening then we advise seeing a podiatrist who will be able to do a full assessment and provide a suitable treatment plan, which may include:

                                                            • Use of orthotic insoles either to take pressure off the painful area or to help with foot position for individuals who have flat feet or other foot conditions
                                                            • Heat therapy may be used to treat the nerve

                                                                                THE NEO G DIFFERENCE
